Manzi Tumubweine, Chairman of the National Lotteries Board told reporters that the Board is working with the police to close down all unlicensed Sports Betting companies that had started mushrooming all over the country.

One of the measures is that the company must deposit 200 million shillings (77,000 U.S. dollars) as a bond or insurance in that if the company fails to pay a winner, then the winner can lodge a complaint and get paid from the deposit.


Tumubweine said licensed sports betting companies have been instructed to open up sizable premises, not to allow any body below the age of 18 years to bet, and not to sell any drinks in the premises.


He said the National Lotteries Board will set up a new electronic system to monitor all gaming points as one of the ways to prevent cheating of customers.


He said currently there are 65 betting companies and these have over 1,000 branches countrywide.
