DENVER Keith Yandle Jersey , Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- A high school student openly wielding a shotgun took his own life on Friday after looking for a teacher and wounding two other students, one seriously, at a high school in the suburbs south of Denver, Colorado.


The student, "apparently acting alone," walked into a side entrance of Arapahoe High School shortly after lunch, carrying a shotgun Roberto Luongo Jersey , and asked students where he could find a "specific teacher," Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson told reporters.


The teacher was informed of the situation and immediately left the building, he said.


Police rushed to the school "within 14 minutes" and found the shooter dead from "a self-inflicted wound," he said.


One student was sent to a nearby hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds, and the other received minor injuries and would be released that day, authorities said.


Robinson said authorities were also looking at an incendiary devise -- a "Molotov cocktail" -- and also will be searching the unnamed suspect's home and car, as part of their ongoing investigation.


The school will be closed until further notice.


"We heard three shots Evgenii Dadonov Jersey ," said freshman student Whitney Riley, 15, who was located in a classroom near the altercation. Riley said she also heard someone tell the gunman to "put the gun down."


Students in the school's 70 classrooms turned off lights, locked doors, and crouched near walls and away from windows during the tense minutes that followed the gunshots.


"We are slowly and methodically clearing the school and ensuring that all of our students are safe," Robinson said. "They were safer inside their locked schoolroom classes than they would have been had we allowed them to exit, and that was part of our strategy and part of our protocol."

Frantic parents rushed en masse to the school with 2,229 student, but were held back by a cordon of police and rescue personnel. Families were soon reunited at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church facility, where hundreds gathered in an emotional scene.

Hickenlooper was referring to the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School, located only 8 miles away, where two student gunmen killed 12 before shooting themselves.


Friday's shooting was one day before the first anniversary of the horrific east coast elementary shooting last December at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newton, Connecticut, which left 20 students and six adults dead.


Arapahoe High School is only 15 miles from last year's movie theater massacre where 12 were killed and 58 wounded by a lone gunman.
